Disarmament and International Security (DISEC)

Topic A: The Weaponization of Commercial Technology in Modern Warfare

Civilian technologies such as satellite internet infrastructure, private aerospace systems, and commercial drones have increasingly been integrated into military operations. This trend complicates international humanitarian law by blurring the distinction between civilian and military targets. Delegates will examine how international law should evolve to regulate dual-use infrastructure without undermining technological innovation or economic development.

Topic B: The Militarization of Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Weapons

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into military infrastructure, the international community faces unprecedented questions regarding accountability, escalation risks, and ethical warfare. Autonomous weapons systems challenge traditional doctrines of deterrence by removing direct human decision-making from lethal force. Delegates will evaluate whether current international humanitarian law sufficiently governs these technologies or if new regulatory mechanisms are necessary. The committee must also consider the destabilizing potential of an AI arms race, particularly among emerging technological powers.
