Dear Delegates,

Welcome to UPMUNC 56! My name is Sahil Mehta and I’m thrilled to be one of your chairs for the Canada House of Commons committee. This unique committee will engage with exciting topics from a different perspective than many of you might be used to, and we hope that it fosters insightful discussions and collaborations. As Canadians ourselves, this committee is particularly meaningful to Vidya and I, and we can’t wait to meet you all!

A little bit about me: I’m a Sophomore at Penn double majoring in Economics and History in the College of Arts and Sciences. On campus, I’m part of the Mock Trial Team, and the Assembly of International Students. I’m from Toronto, Canada, and did Model UN all four years of highschool. Everytime I visit our nation’s capital, Ottawa, I try to attend a live session of the House of Commons to watch members debate. I love the fast-paced, sometimes raucous, exchanges between MPs, and the oversight and accountability that this system of parliamentary debate fuels. I can’t wait to see you all bring that same creative energy to our UPMUNC sessions.

The House of Commons is the people’s house, each MP represents their district’s constituents in the same way that a Representative in Congress would. It is our hope that in this committee you will be able to engage in meaningful collaboration, explore innovative solutions, and have a lot of

fun doing so. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to meeting you all soon, and teaching you how to correctly pronounce ‘about’!

Best Regards,

Sahil Mehta
