Chair, JCC: Dune - House of Harkonen

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to UPMUNC 58! I’m Malini Aggarwal and I’ll be your chair for this Joint Crisis Committee on Dune. On behalf of me and your staffers, I would like to express how excited we are to welcome you to the conference!

Unlike your ordinary crisis topic, Dune is surrounded by unanswered questions and fatalities. Look beyond the planet of Arrakis and the Spice, and ask whether or not factors such as government bureaucracy—or lack thereof—play a role in the overall power dynamics and relationships. Use your imagination, dig into each theory, think about the House rivalry, and the Fremen. As is always the case, time is not on your side, but even more so now; so what will you do with each passing hour that goes by? We are excited to see how each of you tackle unforeseen challenges and crisis breaks that arise in committee!

In regards to background information on who will be chairing your committee: I’m currently a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Economics with a minor in American Public Policy. I’m also involved in INTERCOL, the University of Pennsylvania’s collegiate Model UN team. Outside of MUN, I can be found at Solidcore, Trader Joe’s, or on long walks with my friends.

I love my hometown of Los Angeles and have grown to love Philly, so I’m incredibly excited to extend a warm welcome to you all at UPMUNC this January. Please feel free to email me or any of your staffers regarding questions about committee; we’ll see you in January!
