Chris Alfano
Chair, 1800 U.S. Presidential Election
Dear Delegates,
Welcome to UPMUNC 58! My name is Chris Alfano and I am honored to welcome you to the 1800 U.S. Presidential Election committee. As your crisis director, I look forward to delving into this important period of American history with you all.
The election of 1800, often called the “Revolution of 1800,” marked the first peaceful transfer of power between opposing political parties in American history. This high-stakes campaign pitted the incumbent President, John Adams, against his own Vice President, Thomas Jefferson. While the ambition of these two men is palpable, I encourage you to consider your own character’s motivations during this tumultuous period. What vision for the future of the United States resonates most with you? What kind of leadership is required to bring that vision to fruition? I look forward to seeing how you navigate the trials and tribulations of our fledgling nation.
A bit about me: I am a sophomore from Dorset, Vermont studying Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies & History. Outside of UPMUNC, I compete on Penn’s Intercollegiate Model UN team (INTERCOL) and am involved in the Penn Policy Consulting Group and Wharton Undergraduates in Public Policy. In my free time, I enjoy skiing, hiking, and otherwise spending time outdoors!
My fellow staffers and I are all looking forward to working with you in committee. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
