Jameson Russell

Chair, ECOFIN

Delegates,

Welcome to Philadelphia and to UPMUNC 58! I’m Jameson Russell, a Sophomore at Penn, and I am very excited to serve as the co-chair of your ECOFIN General Assembly.

Our committee will examine both the legacy of unequal emissions and the enigma of balancing economic growth with environmental protection. The questions of how best to address the legacy of unequal emissions, and to sustainably develop are questions that hold great relevance as we suffer from the ever-worsening effects of climate change and global warming. It’s my hope that debate will produce an innovative set of solutions to these questions. These are issues that have plagued policy-makers for decades — draw on their reasoning, ideas, and arguments in your preparation. Maybe they were on to something. But, above all, be original. Be unobvious. I encourage you to pitch ideas that have never been proposed. Advocate for policies you’d like to see enacted in real-life. Gabe and I can’t wait to hear what you have to say.

Enough about MUN — here’s a little bit more about myself. I’m a Sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences from Westport, Connecticut. I’m majoring in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (it’s just one major) and minoring in Legal Studies and Chinese. Outside of class, I’m involved with INTERCOL, Penn’s traveling Model UN team, and I also edit for the Penn Undergraduate Law Journal. In my free time, you’ll find me in the gym, at all-you-can-eat hotpot restaurants, on the golf course, or at sports games (hockey and baseball are my favorite).

I wish you good luck in your preparation, and I can’t wait to meet all of you in November. Please reach out to Gabe, Ivan, or I if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Jameson Russell
