Esteemed Delegates,
Welcome to ESCAP at the 55th UPMUNC! My name is Bruce Shen, and I am both honored and excited to be the co-chair for this committee.
A little bit about myself: I lived in Shanghai, China for 15 years before attending a boarding high school in Maryland. I am currently a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences, double majoring in political science and economics with a minor in German. At Penn, I’m a member of the International Affairs Association, Phi Chi Theta business fraternity, and an editor at Fenjan, an undergraduate magazine focused on the Middle East and North Africa. Outside of school, I love running and playing the piano.
Because of my background, I am interested in everything China-related, from China’s propaganda apparatuses, elite politics, to its economic interaction with the world. I have also published commentaries in outlets such as the South China Morning Post and The Diplomat. Given China’s outsized role in the Asia-Pacific region, I hope my insights can help delegates develop an informed understanding about ESCAP topics at large.
I look forward to moderating ESCAP and hope that you all can make the most of your trip to Philadelphia. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me or anyone on the ESCAP team. Happy researching!
Best,
Bruce Shen
