Alia Goldstein
Chair, Bridgerton
Dear Delegates,
Welcome to UPMUNC LVIII! I’m Alia Goldstein and I’ll be your chair for this Crisis Committee on Bridgerton. On behalf of me, the crisis director, and your staffers, I would like to express how excited we are to welcome you to the conference!
Unlike your typical period drama, Bridgerton offers more than just ballgowns and romance; it immerses viewers in a glittering world where power, privilege, and social maneuvering define every interaction. Beneath the polished surface of London’s high society lies a complex web of ambition, scandal, and hidden agendas. While the show dazzles with its courtship rituals and opulent soirées, I urge you to explore the deeper layers that expose the fragility of reputation, the pressures of societal expectation, and the quiet rebellions that shape each character’s journey. Consider how love becomes a political tool, how gender and class constrain or empower, and how secrets threaten to unravel carefully maintained façades. As with every gossip column from Lady Whistledown, each committee session will leave us hanging on the edge of revelation, inviting your sharpest insights into the machinations behind the ton’s most captivating drama.
A little bit about me, I am a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences studying international relations and economic policy. I’m from southern Indiana, and I participated in my high school’s Model UN club all four years. This will be my third conference that I have staffed with UPMUNC and I hope that you all have an enriching and valuable experience! Outside of UPMUNC, I am part of Penn’s competitive Model UN team and am involved in Greek life on campus. I love hiking and thrifting, as well as exploring Philadelphia in my free time.
Brady and I look forward to guiding you through engaging discussions that explore various aspects of the Regency Era’s scandals. Please feel free to email me or any of your staffers regarding questions about committee; we’ll see you in November!
