All member states of the United Nations are represented on the General Assembly, which debates issues of mutual importance through UPMUNC's four regular committees. This year, the UPMUNC General Assembly is composed of four returning 2009 committees, some of the staples of UPMUNC.
Letter from the USG
Esteemed Delegates and Friends,
It is my utmost pleasure to welcome you to UPMUNC XLIV! My name is Anant Shukla, and I am the Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly Committees. The rest of the secretariat and I have been working for the past year with hundreds of Penn students to put together this amazing conference. I have worked hard to make sure that the weekend is an enjoyable experience for everyone that attends and is truly a conference to remember. My goal is to cater to your every need, so feel free to contact me at any point during the conference and say hello.
I am pursuing a dual degree in the College and Wharton here at Penn, majoring in Finance, Accounting and International Relations with a focus on South Asia. This is my seventh season playing for the MUN team, and I was involved in a multi-million dollar trade this past year. I have had the unique honor of serving on the secretariat of two college conferences, and am also involved in planning special events for the International Affairs Association at Penn. I am an avid Football fan, following Manchester United religiously, and also love to dance, swim, and learn foreign languages.
Our four GA committees this year are being led by some of our best chairs, so there is no need to worry, you are in safe hands. We have selected a series of engaging and diverse topics and hope that you enjoy debating them as much as we have preparing them for the conference. You will hopefully come away from UPMUNC not only having enjoyed the debate aspect of the conference but also having personally connected with the issues. I look forward to seeing you all in Philadelphia this November. Until then, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Best of luck in your preparations and at the conference!
Best Wishes,
Anant Shukla
