Dear Justices,
It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the International Court of Justice at the forty-second session of the University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference! I look forward to the opportunity to get to know all of you during what is sure to be an exciting weekend of dynamic and nuanced discussion.
I am junior in the College of Arts and Sciences studying International Relations and French. I serve as Chief of Staff for ILMUNC, our high school conference, and am an active member in Penn’s student government. When not running around campus for something related to these two activities, I can usually be found engaging in sarcastic commentary with friends or downtown at one of Philadelphia’s many fabulous restaurants.
This will be my first year serving as a Chair, and I hope that the two cases we simulate will employ your tact, diplomacy and understanding to create both a challenging and rewarding experience. You are to address each topic as if it has never been ruled upon before. You are also to debate these topics from your own point of view, without consideration for the preferences of the Justice you are assigned.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have, whether they be about the committee or about life in general. I look forward to meeting you in November!
Sincerely,
Dasha Barannik
