Welcome to the University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference and congratulations on placing yourself amongst the brightest college students in the world! I hope you are looking forward to a weekend full of pressing debate, scintillating events and much, much more! My name is Payal Sobti and I am proud to introduce myself to you as the Under-Secretary-General of the General Assembly for UPMUNC 2008. I am a junior at Penn from the New York City area, studying Economics and Statistics. I have been an active member of the International Affairs Association since my freshman year and am also a tour guide for the Undergraduate Admissions Office at Penn.
This year, we are proud to bring you DISEC, Legal, SPECPOL and SOCHUM as our four General Assembly committees. Our chairs have done an outstanding job preparing for the conference by writing exceptionally in-depth background guides and training our committee staff to exceed the professionalism and knowledge of any other college conference. Each of our topics for these committees has been hand-picked to bring you stimulating debate with the highest level of importance.
I look forward to meeting you all at the conference. Please come introduce yourself to me as I watch your committees hard at work solving the most pressing issues of our time.
