Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the forty-second session of the University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference. The International Affairs Association, Penn’s second largest student organization, has spent the past year creating new and exciting committees, improving upon old but still-exciting committees, organizing logistics with the Doubletree hotel, and putting together the other aspects of what I hope will be the most fabulous and memorable UPMUNC yet!

I am a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania and I plan on double majoring in Economics and Philosophy with a minor in French. I come from Kashmir and South India, but currently live in Muscat, Oman. The high schools I attended unfortunately did not have Model United Nations clubs, and so UPMUNC was my first real exposure to MUN. I was an Assistant Secretary-General during the last conference, and this year I am a proud Undersecretary General of the Crisis Committees—undoubtedly the best committees at the conference. In addition to indulging in international affairs, I spend my free time tutoring in West Philadelphia, advertising for Wharton Women, playing golf, and writing.

As USG Crisis, I have had the privilege of working with four wonderful Crisis Committees this past year. Your chairs, crisis directors and crisis staff have invested their time and creative energy in concocting several exhilarating crisis simulations for you, which will occur anywhere from the foothills of the Himalayas to the urban centers of Colombia. I have no doubt in my mind that you are in very capable hands. So prepare well and get ready to have some organized educational fun! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. See you soon.

Under-Secretary-General, Crisis Committees

Dear Delegates,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the forty-second University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference. As one of your Under-Secretaries-General of the Crisis Committees, I am responsible for five of the crises. I hope you are excited for the domestic warfare, foreign pacts, and global unrest that will unfold during this conference.

Aside from the above chaos, my name is Louise Wang, and I am a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in biochemistry and economics and minoring in math. I have lived all over the world, but currently I come from Ruston, Louisiana and enjoy running, reading, and playing tennis. I have always had a passion for debate and international relations, so UPMUNC is a perfect match for me. Aside from UPMUNC, I also do research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

UPMUNC crisis committees are the conference’s pride and joy. This year is no exception. We offer a multitude of committees, from historic, to futuristic, to multiple joint crises. Our topics span different countries and even multiple continents.

Our diverse and knowledgeable staff has been working tirelessly since January to put together all the details. Staff will guide you in your committees, but of course in any crisis committee, the outcome is in your hands.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. My goal is to make your UPMUNC experience as unforgettable as possible. We hope you enjoy your days at the conference. We certainly loved preparing for them.

Sincerely,
Louise Wang
