Welcome to UPMUNC 52, and welcome to BDSM Capital. My name is Andy Shao, and I’m very excited to be your PM for the Hedge Fund Committee. Your Secretariat and Staff have been working tirelessly for months to prepare for this conference, so look forward to an amazing weekend ahead! Before I go into discussing the committee, I’ll tell you a bit more about myself. I’m a junior majoring in Economics at the Wharton School and concentrating in Finance and Healthcare Management. I’m originally from Westford, Massachusetts, a Boston suburb just 25 minutes away from the city. Currently, I am serving as Chief of Operations for one of our international conferences, ILMUNC China, and am a member of Penn’s travel team, Intercol. I have also previously staffed both UPMUNC 50 and 51 so you may have seen me around in the past! Your CD, Elena, and I are especially excited about running this committee. We’re both quite personally invested in the subject matter and have a lot of fun things in mind for the committee. We look forward to getting to know you all this weekend. Please do not hesitate to email your USG, Arjun Patel, about any questions regarding the committee and preparation process. Get pumped for a challenging and exciting weekend, and see you soon at UPMUNC 52! Best regards,
Sincerely, Andy Shao
Welcome to UPMUNC 52! It is my pleasure to welcome you to a conference that I’m sure will be memorable. Whether you are a new delegate or a veteran of Model UN conferences, my colleagues and I have worked hard to make this conference everything it can be. My name is Elena Zhou and I am a senior at Penn studying finance, operations, and mathematics. I was born in China, am a Canadian citizen, but call Richmond, Virginia my home - feel free to ask me how this happened! On campus, I’m part of Wharton Council and Penn International Impact Consulting. In our very own International Affairs Association, I travel with our competitive team (#rushIntercol) and served as the Chief of Staff for ILMUNC India, our high school conference in Delhi. This was an idea I randomly stumbled upon while procrastinating for midterms and I’m really excited to carry it through with the rest of our dais and staffers. As a CD, I want to ensure everyone starts on an equal playing ground and goes into this conference with creativity. I understand that committees of this nature may sometimes be weighed down with technical jargon, but I hope to carry this out as fast-paced as possible! All in all, I’m really looking forward to a great weekend!
Sincerely, Elena Zhou
This committee is going to be an exciting, fast-paced simulation of a real hedge fund. Learn the history and function behind them and understand what can and may happen - anything is on the table. The delegates who will shine in this committee will not only be those who can apply financial and business acumen to the operation of the fund, but also ones who have the foresight and flexibility to anticipate crises of all kinds - financial, legal, and otherwise. Each delegate will hold unique power and influence in the committee, and understanding how to properly wield those to the greatest impact will yield success, returns, clout, riches.
