My name is Iman Tajadod, and I am very honored to chair the Avatar Last Airbender committee for UPMUNC 69. Born in Iran and raised in Toronto, I am currently a sophomore in the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business at Penn, I am targeting French, and planning to minor in Math, and to concentrate in Finance and Business Analytics at Wharton. At Penn, I’m involved in the Data Analytics, Consulting and Finance Clubs, and of course the International Affairs Association. I’m a member of Intercol, our travelling team, and my favorite conferences to date have been UCBMUN and VICS. And for the long-term, I hope to work somewhere in consulting involving big data or IoT. Outside of school, my personal experience as a first-generation immigrant have shaped who I am as a person as it pertains to culture, way of life and general open-mindedness. But there are somethings I like more than others: I like cities and don’t like time in the outdoors at all. I’m a big Raptors and Blue Jays fan. I love Drake, Chance, Kanye, Kendrick, J. Cole, Anderson .Paak, to name a few – if you can muster in a quote or two, I will be impressed. For this conference, I’m excited to see what you guys have to offer. Basically, the only rule will be to follow simple parli pro and be a relatively decent human being. Literally take the story wherever you see fit. Form alliances and backstab, or give an impassioned speech about why Fergie should never be allowed on public TV again if that helps. The topic has very few constraints and boundaries, and Eric and I expect that to be how you approach committee. I’m very excited to see where you all will take this committee. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns not addressed in the BG, feel free to reach out to Eric or myself. See you soon!
Sincerely, Iman Tajadod
Welcome to UPMUNC! My name is Eric Zhu, and I’m honored to be serving as your CD for the Avatar the Last Airbender crisis committee. I’m incredibly excited for conference this year and can’t wait for y’all to see what we have planned for the weekend. Firstly, a little about myself. I’m a senior studying Neuroscience with minors in Health Care Management and Public Policy. I’m from Beijing, but lived for a while in Japan and most recently glamorous, corn-fed Ohio, On campus, I’m the director of Health and Social Services team for the Wharton Public Policy Initiative, and I’m a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. In our very own International Affairs Association, I travel with our competitive team (#rushIntercol) and served as the Secretary-General for ILMUNC China, our high school conference in Shanghai. MUN is an activity I only got involved with in college, but somehow it’s kept me coming back again and again, and I’ve loved every moment of it. Avatar was one of my favorite shows growing up, and (lowkey) I still watch it. But the show did a great job of discussing cultural and territorial conflicts between different nations or demographics. Except that there are flying bisons and people can lift boulders. I hope that with this committee y’all can explore those conflicts in a scenario not presented in the show - the reconstruction of the Earth Kingdom. Iman, Will, and I can’t wait to see how y’all will work collaboratively toward these mutual goals (or not). If y’all have any questions or concerns at all about the committee, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I look forward to seeing you this fall!
Sincerely, Eric Zhu
Congratulations! With Avatar Aang’s defeat of Fire Lord Ozai, the Hundred Years War is at long last over. Unfortunately, now begins the real fight. We in the Earth Kingdom have carried the brunt of the war effort after the demise of the Air Nomads and the retreat of the Water Tribes to their poles. Our territory has been colonized, our cities conquered and our people displaced. King Bumi, the current steward of the throne, has gathered the greatest lords from all corners to reconstruct our great Kingdom. Our people will endure. But only if you succeed.
If you have any questions about this committee, feel free to reach out to your Under-Secretary General Arjun Patel at firstname.lastname@example.org
