I am very pleased to welcome you to the fifty-third iteration of the University of Pennsylvania’s Model United Nations Conference! My name is Dano Major and I am the Chair for the Ad Hoc Committee of the Secretary General. It has been such a pleasure preparing for conference over these past several months and Jay and I cannot wait to share an incredible experience with you! I am so excited to tell you a little bit more about myself and this amazing conference. I was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, California where I spent much of my time enjoying the year-round sunny weather by spending copious amounts of time at the beach with friends and family. Since coming to Penn, I have survived three winters and am learning to navigate the public transportation system. I am studying in the College of Arts and Sciences, where I am majoring in Economics, International Relations, and Hispanic Studies. Joining the University of Pennsylvania’s International Affairs Association as an overwhelmed and confused freshman was one of the best decisions I have made since coming to Penn; I anticipate that my fourth and final UPMUNC will be just as stimulating and enjoyable as the other Model United Nations conferences I have attended! Your secretariat has spent countless hours working to make sure each of the committees is run by capable staffers and that each topic is dynamic and engaging for all of you. With a wide range of topics and committees, we hope that all delegates are able to partake in a lively debate about topics that excite them. I have enjoyed pursuing my passion for Model UN on the collegiate level through INTERCOL, Penn’s competitive travel team, and serving as Secretary General for UPMUNC last year. Not only have I improved my speaking and research skills, I have also met some of my best friends. I hope that we are able to foster a similar environment of learning and connection for all of you at UPMUNC this year. Please do not hesitate to reach out me or any other members on the Secretariat with questions or concerns.
Sincerely, Danielle Major
Welcome to UPMUNC 53! On behalf of my crisis staff and the rest of Secretariat, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Ad-Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General. I hope you are as excited for this committee as I am, as this conference will challenge you in new and innovative ways. As you know, this application-based committee attracts some of the finest delegates on the circuit, and I'm honored to be your Crisis Director for this conference. To introduce myself, my name is Jay Vaingankar and I'm a senior at the University of Pennsylvania, studying in the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business. I was born and raised in Hightstown, New Jersey, where we find ourselves going through all four seasons every week, splitting between the Giants and Eagles, and asserting that yes, Central Jersey does exist. On campus, I currently serve as the Head Delegate of Penn's Intercollegiate Model United Nations Team. I thoroughly enjoy the thrill of competing, and I'm looking forward sharing this experience with you. ++Outside of class and MUN, some of my hobbies are playing basketball, doing Bhangra, learning foreign languages, debating politics, and of course, tagging people in memes. I could not be more excited to team up with Dano, the previous Secretary-General of this conference, and we take on our fourth and final UPMUNC. She and I have been preparing for months to bring you a committee that is exciting, challenging, and memorable in your college career. Crisis committees bring the ideal blend of in-room politics, substantive debate, and creativity. Although the Ad-Hoc topic will not be released for a few months, I hope that your committee experience and content knowledge will prepare you for a weekend for full of challenges you've never seen before. If you have any questions about committee, conference, or anything in general, please feel free to email me at email@example.com
Sincerely, Jay Vaingankar
