Welcome to UPMUNC 52 and to Apostles of Jesus! My name is Fiona Bardhoshi, and I am so happy to be your chair for this upcoming weekend of intelligent debate and debauchery. The Secretariat and Staff have been working incredibly hard to make this year’s UPMUNC the best yet and continue its legacy of being one of the most enjoyable collegiate conferences on the circuit. I’m confident that this will be one of your favorite weekends of the semester. Before I get into what myself and your Crisis Director JP Young are looking forward to in this committee, let me tell you a bit about myself! I am a current junior in the College of Arts & Sciences studying Political Science, concentrating in Comparative Politics, and English. I was born and raised in Philadelphia, so this city is home – let me know if you’re looking for an enchanting little bookstore or the best sushi spot in town. In high school, I was an avid public speaker and became involved in Student Government, Mock Elections, and World Affairs. Though my high school didn’t offer MUN, I immediately got involved upon starting university, and this year I am serving as the Secretary-General of ILMUNC - Penn’s high school conference. Chairing Crisis simulations at UPMUNC has given me some of my fondest memories during college, and I’m incredibly excited to dive into this Apostles committee with you all and make our time together as interesting and fun as possible. I’m thankful to be running this unique committee alongside your Crisis Director, and the best person to eat buffalo wings with – JP Young. This year we’ve concocted interesting twists and turns to guide you through this insane terrain that is the meeting of Jesus Christ’s disciples. We hope to invoke four days of difficult yet rewarding debate packed with innovative thinking and creativity. We hope you will all read the background guide and take an even further look into the history and importance of this simulation. The quality of this committee will depend not only on JP and I, but on your preparedness and enthusiasm for discussion. We can’t wait to see how your ideas play out in committee! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about anything before the conference please feel free to reach out to either of us or your USG, Beau Staso! Can’t wait until November - see you then!
Sincerely, Fiona Bardhoshi
Welcome to the Apostles of Jesus at UPMUNC 52! My name is J.P. Young, and I am honored to be your Crisis Director for what I hope will be an incredible weekend for all of us. The Secretariat and Staff have been working hard to make this conference the best yet. I hope that UPMUNC is one of the best weekends of your fall semester. First, let me introduce myself: I'm a senior studying Economics and Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciences and Finance in the Wharton School. I’m from northern Virginia, just outside of our nation’s capital. I love the monuments and free museums and that every corner of D.C. has a small piece of history that is exciting in and of itself. I started doing Model UN in college, and it has been one of my favorite experiences at Penn so far. I’ve served as a Deputy Director of Intercol, the branch of Penn’s International Affairs Association that organizes our competitive team, and I was the Chair of UPMUNC 50’s California Earthquake committee and UPMUNC 51’s Exxon Board of Directors committee. When I’m not competing in or running committee (or cramming until 3:00 AM), I explore Philly, cook, and keep up with whatever sport is in season at the time (HTTR). When I find a free minute, I try to read anything I can grab my hands on, from Tolstoy to the Economist, and anything in between. I am very excited to be working with Fiona to make sure this committee is fun for all of us, but also dynamic and challenging. This year we have done everything we can to make this committee excellent by everyone’s standards. Please read the background guide and seek additional research, since the committee can only be as fantastic and engaging as you make it. Fiona and I are confident that you’ll make this committee something special. If you have any questions or concerns about anything before conference feel free to reach out to your USG, Beau Staso. I can’t wait to meet all of you in November!
Sincerely, JP Young
“Upon this rock, I will build my church…” It is a dark day for the Apostles of Jesus. The leader of a new faith has died, risen again, and disappeared. Christianity so fragile, anything might shatter it. It is the responsibility of this committee to see that the vision of our Lord, Jesus, is carried out across the world. People must see the light of his benevolence. But you are not without opposition - the Romans fear the spread of a new power, and many Jews do not believe the the savior has yet come. Nevertheless, I am confident you will achieve great things.
If you have any questions about this committee, feel free to reach out to your Under-Secretary General Beau Staso at firstname.lastname@example.org
