Dear Delegates,

Welcome to UPMUNC 2008!  As your Chair it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference (UPMUNC).  Our staff has been working tirelessly over the past year to provide you with one of the greatest conferences on the circuit.

To those of you committed to the ad-Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General, I wish you the best of luck. From the application process to the close of our session, this committee can only be called...insane.  Since this is the ad-Hoc Committee, and since it is designed to provide a forum for the more experienced of you, I will wait until the Fall to tell you more.  I will tell you this, though: this committee will be like nothing you have ever experienced.

I'd also like to more formally introduce myself.  My name is Dan Tavana, and I am a senior majoring in International Relations and Political Science.  In my spare time, I enjoy playing hockey and being involved in student government.  This will be my first time chairing at UPMUNC, and my first as a member of our staff.  For the past three years, I have held positions on our Secretariat.  Last year, I was fortunate enough to serve as Secretary-General.

I'll keep this letter brief (primarily because I can't say anything about the committee), but I want to encourage all of you to get in touch with me if you have ANY questions at all.

In the meantime, relax—the fun starts soon enough.

All the best,
Dan Tavana
