Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

Sachi Sobti Dear Delegates,

I am delighted to welcome each of you to the forty-third session of the University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference. You have made the right decision to be a part of this conference, as it will undoubtedly be a weekend of thought-provoking debate, new friends, and (hopefully) compromise. Over the past 11 months, a team of 11 diverse secretariat members has planned each detail to perfection to ensure that each of our 1,100 delegates has the best possible experience. UPMUNC has set a high standard for excellence and we have done our best to maintain and even exceed the accomplishments of the past. If we have done our job correctly, you will take for granted the exceptional facilities, thorough materials, and well-thought out events that we will provide for you.

For those of you who are in the Economic and Social Council or Specialized Committees, I extend a special welcome. I am extremely excited to talk with you in order to make sure that your UPMUNC experience is trouble-free, and ensure that you are in a comfortable debate environment. As a brief introduction, I am currently a sophomore at UPenn, specifically studying business at Wharton. I am originally from North Jersey (Saddle River, NJ) and graduated from Horace Mann School (Riverdale, NY) in 2008. I have been involved in the International Affairs Association (the umbrella organization for UPMUNC) over the past two years, first as an Assistant Secretary-General and now as an Under Secretary-General. In my free time, I enjoy planning social events for the IAA, tutoring on campus, and running by the Schuylkill River.

With the tumultuous events of the past year, it is extremely important to find innovative solutions to the problems facing the world. Your chairs, vice-chairs, and staff have carefully structured committees centered around issues that they find most pertinent and relevant. It is my hope that you will share their interest in the topics and find a way to balance creativity and practicality in your solutions. I wish you the best of luck in your preparation. I look forward to seeing you in November!

Sincerely,

Sachi Sobti
Under Secretary-General, Ecosoc / Specialized
